![]() Press ReleasesCymbet First to Bring Thin-Film Battery to Market, Offering Commercial AvailabilityDecember 5, 2007Elk River, Minn. – Dec. 5, 2007 – Cymbet Corporation today announced commercial availability of its EnerChip™ thin-film battery products. The company is currently shipping to customers worldwide from its suburban-Minneapolis manufacturing facility. Cymbet launched its EnerChip thin-film battery line in September 2007. Cymbet is the first company to commercialize a solid-state, thin-film battery technology for the semiconductor industry. Cymbet's technological advancements have made it possible to manufacture and ship large quantities of a small form factor, highly rechargeable device to distribute energy. The solid-state battery can be economically and reliably integrated as an embedded device or as a surface-mounted component. Said Bill Priesmeyer, Cymbet's CEO, "EnerChip is a major advancement in the evolution of batteries. Our technology provides a new, cost-effective alternative for the electronics designer needing reliable, long-lived, non-volatility for common semiconductors." Cymbet's EnerChip family is well suited for applications where back-up power is needed to maintain the settings of microcontroller memories, real-time clocks and SRAM during power loss or power failures. Products can deliver back-up power ranging from a few hours to several weeks, depending on the system’s stand-by current requirements. In many cases, an EnerChip can also function as a primary power source, providing many hours of operation between recharges. When coupled with energy-harvesting or energy-scavenging techniques, an EnerChip can supply the energy storage to build self-contained, long lived powered systems – an environmental benefit. Considered a "component-class" device, EnerChip products provide energy storage in a form factor and convenience not previously attainable using conventional solutions, such as coin cell batteries and super capacitors. Product is available in capacities of 12, 50 and 85uAh and can be automatically surface mounted (SMT), bringing new capabilities to the designer. About Cymbet Founded in 2000, Cymbet Corporation—a clean technology company—is a leader in thin-film, solid-state battery technology. The company is the first to market a true solid-state energy system enabling new embedded systems designer capabilities. The company's thin-film battery system will enable new concepts in battery application for ICs and new products for medical, sensor, RFID, communications and portable electronic devices. |
