02.18.2020 Axzon and Cymbet announce collaboration to develop world’s first ultra-low power, disposable data logger solution for Cold Chain logistics monitoring
Austin, TX / Minneapolis, MN – February 18, 2020 – Axzon and Cymbet Corporation announced that they are combining their unique technologies to create the world’s lowest power Internet of Things (IoT) sensor tag at a price point, which enables continuous monitoring and data logging of key environmental conditions during the logistics chain of perishable goods, such as meat, produce, and medications at any point in the logistics flow.
This unprecedented sensing solution consists of Axzon’s Xerxes-II semi-passive data logger sensor IC for autonomously monitoring as well as recording temperature, pH, moisture, strain and other environmental parameters, in combination with Cymbet’s EnerChip solid state micro-battery.
Xerxes-II IC includes a full encryption engine for protecting data integrity, a real-time clock, memory, several sensing engines and a UHF RAIN-based wireless transceiver. Together with EnerChip, the sensor solution provides a low cost, low profile, and highly scalable solution for end-to-end, continuous cold-chain monitoring and recording of environmental conditions during s product’s journey from producer to consumer. Axzon and Cymbet are working with select partners to enable unprecedented visibility and security, and to provide actionable data as part of their cold chain logistic solution. The two companies have already demonstrated operational prototypes and expect to sample their sensor solution in 2020, with production quantities in late 2020 or early 2021.
“We continue to expand our vision of connecting the Unconnected. Through our combined innovative technologies and strategic partnerships, our joint solution enables our customers to experience much greater visibility, accountability, and unprecedented quality control throughout the entire supply chain at an attractive cost point.” said Shahriar Rokhsaz, CEO of Axzon. “We are fully committed and excited to changing the dynamic of this market by collaborating with Cymbet and their highly innovative battery approach.”
Cymbet’s EnerChip solid state battery is safe under all operating conditions. It is both non-toxic and non-flammable, making it an excellent choice for applications in low power remote sensors, food and pharmaceutical distribution, as well as medical devices. Cymbet CEO Monte Johnson noted, “We continue to build upon our industry-leading technology and intellectual property base. Our technology provides product attributes that our customers utilize to create new and differentiated products.” The extremely small footprint and low profile of the EnerChip allows product designers the freedom to integrate a battery in miniature devices using high volume assembly methods, overcoming the physical size and integration limitations of conventional batteries.
