11.10.2016 Cymbet Granted Patents on Battery Management of Solid State MicroBatteries
Cymbet Developing Non-Flammable and Non-Toxic HD MicroBatteries for Internet of Things and Medical Devices
Minneapolis, MN – November 10, 2016 – Cymbet Corporation announced that it has been granted two additional patents in the United States, expanding Cymbet’s worldwide intellectual property portfolio in the categories of solid state batteries, power management circuits, and integration of microbatteries with other components. Patents US 9,419,463: Thin Film MicroBattery Charge and Output Control and US 9,331,501: Multi-Cell Thin Film MicroBattery Array, pertain to charge control methods that optimize the performance of lithium-based solid state batteries in low power systems. Cymbet continues to develop ultra-low power integrated circuits to further complement its microbattery products. New power management integrated circuits (PMICs) with additional functions designed for energy efficiency in low power systems will be introduced in 2017.
Cymbet is also completing the development of its HD EnerChip™ solid state products and will begin sampling in early 2017. For its HD (High Density), and all products, the materials and processes used in Cymbet’s solid state battery manufacturing process result in a battery that is safe under all operating conditions. It is both non-toxic and non-flammable, making it an excellent choice for applications in low power remote sensors and medical devices. Chief Executive Officer Monte Johnson noted, “We continue to build on our industry leading technology and intellectual property base. Our technology provides product attributes that our customers can use to create new and differentiated products.”
In addition, Cymbet is in the process of securing the 2nd tranche of its Series F Preferred financing. The $10 million 2nd tranche is expected to close in early 2017. Cymbet will use this investment to bring its HD EnerChip™ bare die to the global marketplace and expand its EnerChip™ RTC product line. “The 2nd tranche of financing will allow us to begin to deliver on the promise our new products hold for the marketplace,” CEO Johnson added. Cymbet’s microbattery and integrated products serve applications in low power systems in industrial, consumer, military, and medical device market segments. Cymbet’s components enable its customers to create innovative, integrated products in an ever-expanding field of electronic devices requiring safe, rechargeable, miniature power sources.
In industry news: Jeff Sather, VP Technology and Solutions at Cymbet, will be speaking at the Energy Storage Innovations session of the IDTechEx Show in Santa Clara, CA, on Wednesday, November 16. His presentation will focus on energy storage devices for miniature electronic systems, including a glimpse of new battery technologies under development.
